Remembering Labour Day

Happy Labour Day! Being a holiday here so today there will be no PIPS or pips, just a post of total distraction. I remember in my school days, I used to enjoy reading MAD magazine and my favorites were those parody poems. In fact I tried my hand at that and wrote from time to time but now I could not find the pieces. You see, there were no computers then where you could save your work on CD's or a thumb drive. Anyway, I could remember a few lines to one of my creations and I just added some lines to complete the following. With apologies to Thomas Hood.

I remember, I remember,
the school where I was taught.
The smelly toilet by the hall
Where smokers would be caught.
The noisy classrooms in a row
With shaky wooden chairs
The screeching sound of broken chalk
whose dust would fill the air.

I remember, I remember
The teachers that I had
They came in all shapes and sizes
And some were not too bad
A lovely missus taught me science
Oh how I loved her skirt.
A grand old man he drilled me maths
And helped me got my cert.

I remember, I remember.
The HM who brought fear
With cane in hand he walked around,
A pin drop you could hear.
And so I miss the good old days,
The innocence of youth
For now in later life we learn

It hurts to know the truth.

What me , worry????
